Installer Rigi.Viewer for Windows

The Rigi Viewer provides context for translators. Online editors, like Rigi's online translation editor and third-party editor XTM will automatically open the Rigi Viewer in a new browser window.

Rigi offers plugins for popular third party editors that run on Windows, such as Trados and memoQ. Refer to the Rigi documentation for your editor. The plugin will open the Rigi Viewer as a separate Windows application. That app is basically a browser and has the functionality as the online viewer component.

It is recommended to show the preview on a separate monitor.

Use cases

The Rigi Viewer supports 4 use cases:

Mode
Menu
Description
Context

Translate segment-by-segment.
As a translator, you can quickly step through the list of UI texts, immediately see the context in the form of an interactive HTML Preview and apply your translation.

Issues

Process feedback from language testers.
As a translator, you can select the issues that language testers reported one-by-one. The selection of an issue will automatically show the HTML Preview with the text highlighted, and select the segment in your editor. You can simply paste the suggested translation to the segment and make edits if needed. This way, you can process many review comments in minutes!

Previews

HTML Previews
In this view, you can see all HTML Previews that are available for this project.  This feature is not commonly used, but can be useful for particular use cases.
Live

Live
If the customer provides access to a live (staging) server, it is possible to translate all strings in-context on the live application. This may be useful when you translate a language from scratch and when you know how to control the application.

Context - Translate segment by segment

A common use case is that only untranslated segments need to be translated. Rigi provides a feature to select the set of segments to be translated and quickly translate them segment-by-segment.
  1. Adapt the filter in your editor to only see strings that have status untranslated.

  2. Make sure that the viewer is in context mode.

  3. Select a text in the editor.

This will open a preview with the appropriate text highlighted, or select the text in the current preview if it is there.

Select a string in the preview
It is also possible to select any translatable string in the preview and edit it in context.
    1. Right-click a string in the preview to select it.
The string is now marked as selected and the text will be selected in the editor.

    2. Change the translation.
You will see the actual translation in the preview.

  4. Change the text in the editor.

The text is adapted in the real-time viewer. What-you-see-is-what-you-get (WYSIWYG).

    Example 1: memoQ

    Example 2: SDL Trados Studio

Issues - Process feedback from Language Testers

Language Testers have reviewed the translated strings (in-context) and provided feedback:
  1. Comment
  2. Suggested translation
  3. Error category
  4. Priority
Translators can access those comments directly in Rigi, apply the feedback immediately and mark the issue as fixed. No more emails, annotated PDFs, Excels and phone calls!
  1. Select the Issues-mode in the viewer window:

The badge shows the number of issues for this language that have not been marked as fixed.

  2. Select an item in the list of issues.

    This will
    1. load the preview, and
    2. highlight the string in the preview, and
    3. select the string in the editor that the comment applies to.

  3. Open the information icon

This shows all details for this particular issue.

  4. Click the copy icon.

The suggestion is copied to the clipboard.

  5. Paste the suggestion in the editor

  6. Click the mark-as-fixed icon.

Repeat the previous steps to process each reported issue.

Previews

In this view, you can see all HTML Previews that are available for this project.

This feature is not commonly used, but can be useful for particular use cases.
  1. Click on the Preview name to open the preview

    This will open the preview.

Live - Translate the live web app

If the customer provides access to a live (staging) server, it is possible to translate all strings in-context on the live application. This may be useful when you translate a language from scratch and when you know how to control the application.
  1. Click Live.

This will open the live application in a new browser tab.

Rigi.Viewer for Windows - Exit button!
The Rigi Viewer for Windows will show the live app in the same window:

To exit the live mode, you need to click the Exit-button on the top right.

  2. The experience is the same as for translation in context.
    - Select a text in the Live app will select the text in the editor;
    - Change a translation in the editor will immediately be shown in the preview.

Why is the correct live page is not selected when I select a string in the editor?
Rigi can do a lot, except sorcery :-)
If you want to see a specific text in your application, you will have to navigate to the right page, perhaps with special permissions such as a password and/or need to simulate an error message. External applications like Rigi do not have that domain knowledge.
Rigi solves this by letting the developers provide that information in the form of HTML Previews. These can be captured by domain experts, or automatically during automated UI tests (i.e. implementation of domain knowledge). Besides this, Rigi also provides live URLs for specific web application types (e.g. PIM and CMS).
